I want to start with a topic I’m passionate about: dressing with intention, style and personality. Laying in bed, I’m staring at one of my favorite dresses hanging in the closet next to me. It’s a delightful shade of green with big, blousy flowers of white and pink with yellow and navy highlights on it. I love it! Long sleeves, its floor length silhouette has shape and movement to it. Qualities I care about in a maxi dress. There is something bright and cheery, yet refined and elegant about it. I’ve worn it with heels and glorious jewelry to events at Lincoln Center and Juilliard when in New York City. I’ve also worn it casually, with sandals and a simple bangle on my left wrist. She wears beautifully and as a woman of distinction, I love the feelings of appreciation I receive when I wear it out.
I think this is what good clothing does for a person, women especially. It lifts us and when we feel beautiful, we radiate beautiful from the inside out. Our unique, sometimes hidden glow lights up and we shine and sparkle from within. It is amazing to watch how a single woman, in possession of her own self confidence, can affect an entire room. Not with an ostentatious display of fabrics or jewelry that draw external response (though these may demand one’s attention indeed), but rather when she possesses an inner strength that commands from a place of recollection. She remembers who she is and therefore has no need to either shout it from a rooftop nor anxiously seek external definition of who others think she is or should be. She is at rest within herself and others feel it in her presence.
As I lay here falling asleep in a bed fresh, cozy and comfortable, I am whisked away to sleep content. This green dress, a reminder of the gift of being a woman, has served its purpose even on the hanger. I am beautiful and grateful for this little reminder as I close my eyes.
